Gluten free snack products
Sticking to a gluten free diet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is great but what about gluten free snack products? First, don’t fret; there are many gluten free snacks available that are ready made or ones you can make yourself. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Prepared snacks are a great and easy way to satisfy your mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack craze. They come in all kinds and we found some websites that offer readymade snacks like toasted almonds, cinnamon crackers made with corn and rice flour, fruit cups, ginger cookies, gluten free granola bars, pudding and soy crisps. All of these are great gluten free snacks to tempt your taste buds.
Try making some snacks on your own and buy Chex® mix that is gluten free and mix with nuts and dried fruits to make your own trail mix. Find baking mixes online or in natural food stores that will allow you to make gluten free muffins, cookies, and brownies.
Fresh vegetables are always a good snack choice and gluten free tortilla chips are great in salsas of all kinds. Other snacks that are tasty and good for you and your kids are, sweet potato fries backed in the oven and topped with organic ketchup, frozen grapes, marinated carrots with low-sugar vinaigrette, and natural peanut butter on celery sticks.
More good snacks we found were toasted pumpkin seeds and roasted sunflower seeds, apple butter on rice cakes, simple orange slices or as we mentioned mixing all sorts of dried fruit like apricots and pineapple with and nuts. Hard-boiled eggs and almond pecan nut thin crackers are also great choices. Popcorn is a good choice and if you add nutritional yeast, it can add B vitamins to this tasty snack. Sorbets like apricot are great for gluten free snacks.
Tomato slices with salt and garbanzo beans are also treats to satisfy your snack needs. Hormel® makes a great gluten free pepperoni that is not fat-free but still is a satisfying treat for you or the kids. Lettuce wraps stuffed with tuna or hummus is another great ways to keep your tummy full.
Try searching for good recipes in books or online for gluten free snacks and make them on the weekend and freeze for the upcoming week. This will ensure that your gluten free snacks are fresh. While natural food stores and regular grocery stores do sell gluten free snacks, nothing beats homemade for freshness and taste.
Finding gluten free snacks is not hard if you use your imagination and do some research.
